A Message from the Board of Education

December 2005

The 2005/2006 school year has already provided great triumphs as well as challenges to the CCRS school district. The triumphs have come from the athletic fields and the classrooms, and the challenges are similar to those faced by many of us this year.

The Board of Education would like to congratulate both the girls and boys varsity soccer teams for another successful season. Chazy was the only school in the state to send both boys and girls to the state final four competitions. We are so proud of all their accomplishments and both teams were great representatives of CCRS. Special congratulations to Rob McAuliffe and the boy's varsity team for winning their 2nd straight NYS Class D state championship. This is truly an amazing accomplishment which has brought great pride to the entire Chazy community.

Congratulations also go out to Stephanie Pepper and Corrine Giroux. Both these young girls competed at the state level in cross country. They also did a great job representing Chazy at the state level and we are proud of their accomplishments.

The Board of Education has recently approved a Youth Development Grant which comes to us through the Department of Health, partnered with Behavioral Health Services North. The sponsoring agency is the Eastern Adirondack Health Care Network which is a coalition of agencies with a mission to improve the health status of our communities. The goal of this grant is to delay the onset of teen sexual activity through education and healthy youth development activities, programs, and media outreach. We are pleased to be able to offer this program to the students of CCRS.

As with all consumers, high fuel costs have provided the greatest challenge to the school district this year. The Board of Education, along with the administration, is looking at all areas of the budget where possible reductions may help offset the high cost of fuel. The areas of transportation, cafeteria costs, and swimming pool expenses are a few of the areas being examined. Careful monitoring of the budget will continue so that any necessary corrective measures can be taken well in advance of any budgetary problems.

As we enter into another holiday season, we can all be grateful for the blessings of our families, our health, and our promising youth. We look forward to the Christmas concerts being presented by the chorus and band students, the Christmas plays, and gifts made by students in the classrooms. The Board of Education would like to extend warmest wishes to all for a joyous holiday season, and a happy, healthy New Year.

Sincerely,
The Board of Education
