A Message From Mr. Tregan
Dear Parents; Chazy Central Rural School, what a wonderful place to be. As Elementary Principal I welcome you to what I believe will be a superb year. Not only do we have, great staff, students, parents, and a supportive community, but a school that is one of excellence and proud of its fine traditions. I look forward to supporting each child to meet with success. As parents I know that you will work with the school to cooperatively make for a successful school year. I look forward to making each child's day a great one. If I can be of any assistance please do not hesitate to contact me. I thank you for welcoming me to the community and sharing your children. Tom Tregan
Registering and Leaving A student enrolling at Chazy Central Rural School must present to the Superintendent proof of residency. Upon approval, parents will be directed to the Elementary Office to complete the appropriate paperwork. When leaving Chazy Central Rural School, the student must check with both his/her teachers and the librarian to insure that all materials borrowed, including textbooks, have been returned and that any payments or other obligations have been met. If the student is transferring to another school, after the above are completed and upon receipt of a request from the new school, a transcript will be forwarded. Monthly Calendar A monthly calendar is compiled and sent home with the youngest child in each family. This calendar will keep you updated on events during the month. Open House Open House is presented to the community during the Spring. This affords students the opportunity to display current school work and gives parents the opportunity to briefly speak with teachers and other faculty members. Newsletter A bimonthly newsletter is compiled and mailed to all district residents. This newsletter is a vehicle to keep residents of the district updated on all upcoming events and important news from the school and community. Parental Calls If you wish to speak with a staff member, please call either before or after school. During the school day, the secretary will take your number and notify the staff member to return your call as soon as possible. Student Agenda Pupils in Grades 2-6 incorporate a helpful, functional, organizational tool into their learning experience for the school year. This School Agenda is an assignment pad, a planner, and a resource guide. It's purpose is to provide an avenue of communication between the parents and the school. All second through sixth grade pupils will be required to purchase one as part of their regular school supplies. Homework Homework provides excellent opportunities for developing good study habits, providing for individual differences and abilities, and encouraging self-initiative on the part of the student. Parents, students, and the school share the responsibility for student learning. Parents can assist their child(ren) with homework by:
Homework assignments will be graded and included in each student's quarterly grade. Student of the Month CCRS recognizes two students per month as the "Student of the Month", a student from primary (K-3) and a student from intermediate (4-6). Teachers are asked to nominate a student from their class each month. A committee of teachers take all nominations and select two students. At the beginning of the month the students will be recognized and a special letter will go home to parents. Character Counts This program shows our students that a person of character thinks right and does right according to core universal values that define the qualities of a good person: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship. Character lessons are taught individually and during teachable moments. Early Literacy Bags Early Literacy Bags have been compiled to help our students gain informative skills that will help them in their beginning year of school. Bag topics include: colors, numbers, letters, sequencing and fairy tales. These bags can be borrowed from the Elementary Office and Chazy Public Library and are targeted for Prekindergarten students. Parental Involvement CCRS believes that student achievement is directly linked to parental involvement, and therefore encourages such involvement in school. Parental involvement may take place either in the classroom (as volunteers) or during extracurricular activities. However, the Board of Education also encourages direct parental involvement at home (for example, planned home reading time, informal learning activities, and/or homework). Parent Teacher Organization The Chazy Parent Teacher Organization consists of parents, teachers and other interested community members of the Chazy Central Rural School District. The objective of the PTO is to foster the informed cooperation of parents and teachers to better the education of our young people. PTO fund raiser monies are used to fund such projects as field trips, educational assemblies, theater productions, etc. PTO sponsored events include, but are not limited to: Frosty's Workshop and a Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. Monthly meetings are held throughout the school year and are open to all. Together we can make this a happy and productive year for you and your child!
