2008 NYSSMA

SOLO EVALUATION FESTIVAL

CCRS Music Students have the opportunity to perform a NYSSMA solo at the New York State School Music Association Solo/Small Ensemble Evaluation Festival. Vocalists, Instrumentalists, and Pianists are eligible to attend the Festival. The Festival takes place on May 2 and May 3, 2007, at Beekmantown Central School. Chazy music students are encouraged to participate. Soloists will receive a rating and written comments regarding their performances. The NYSSMA festival helps both students and teachers work towards musical goals.

The audition consists of a prepared solo, prepared scales (or rudiments), and some sight-reading at an appropriate level of difficulty. Students may obtain more information, an application, and music from their school music teachers.

Participating in the NYSSMA Solo Evaluation Festival students test their skills and musicianship against state and national standards. Thousands of students statewide show initiative and drive towards improving their musical skills by performing at evaluation festivals. A NYSSMA Solo rating also provides the key into All-State, Area All-State, and All-County performing groups.

All Performers seeking an evaluation rating must select material from the NYSSMA Manual Edition XXVIII - effective July, 2006.
